If You Seek Him, He Will be Found by You!
My wife and I had a different Christmas. We packed a couple of additional suitcases and made our way to California. Both of our sons were there, and with extended family, had a tremendous time. Even though we were only there for four days, I had a wonderful opportunity to think and write. One of the Books of the Bible I looked at was 2 Chronicles. In the 15th Chapter, King Asa was depressed because the odds seemed stacked against Judah. We read that it was a time of chaos with nation against nation and city against city. It was within this environment that Azariah approaches King Asa, and tells him to seek the Lord. Azariah reminds Asa that our relationship with God is reciprocal: when we reach out to God, God will respond in kind.
Too often, we hesitate to pray and call on God, and then wonder, where is God? Sometimes, we assume that God is going to jump up and fight our battles without us doing a single thing. The words of Azariah to Asa are relevant even today – If we want the direction, protection and help of God, we need to trust God, lean on God, and seek God, and God will be there when you need God!
2 Chronicles 15: 2 He went out to meet Asa and said to him, “Hear me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin: The Lord is with you, while you are with him. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you abandon him, he will abandon you.
Questions for Reflection:
- Why was it important that Azariah seek out Asa?
- What does this passage, 2 Chronicles 15: 2, say to you about the willingness of God to be sought?
Prayer: I confess, Lord, that there have been times when I have not sought your advice and strength. It has seemed that sometimes my challenges loomed larger than my capacity to find a solution. Today, Lord, I give myself to you. Today, I stop running. Today, I stop hiding. Today, I stand up and seek your face. Today, I stand up to confront my fears. Today, I make a commitment to be a witness for you, a servant for you, a communicator for you, a fighter for you. Put a word on my lips and I will speak. Put a thought in my heart and I will think. Put a pep in my step and I will walk to the ends of the earth for you. Bless me this day, and I will never leave you. Through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Amen.
