Pastor Nick Hood Preaching

Our Heavenly father

Luke 11: 11 Is there anyone among you who, if your child asks for a fish, will give a snake instead of a fish? 12 Or if the child asks for an egg, will give a scorpion? 13 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

  1. I want to talk today about our Heavenly father…

  • Today, we honor the fathers
  • We pause this day to reflect and honor our fathers for the love and support they have given us
  • I can tell story after story about the good fathers
  • With my own eyes, I have seen fathers who drove their children to school, sat up at night to do homework, bathed the children, cooked for the child, read to the children at night
  • Saved money for their children
  • Coached their children
  • Went to school to talk with teachers
  • Taught their children
  • Helped the children with homework
  • I realize there are some who have to really search to find something good to say about their father, but everyone’s experience is different.
  • It is unfortunate that when men and woment break up, the children are often caught in the middle and suffer
  • Even in the worse cases, there is often something good and positive that can be said about the dads
  • In the worst cases, if we look for them, we will find good father figures
  •  Last Sunday after church, Denise and I received a tremendous compliment as we left Sinbads…
  • A man followed us out of the restaurant to say hello, I was not sure who he was, until he introduced himself and said Denise and I were “Honorary Godparents to his sons…”
  • I had a great childhood, because I was fortunate enough to have a great mother and a great father
  • Because today is Father’s Day, let me focus on my Father
  • My father was not into sports, but he induldged me
  • and Emory with sports – year round!
  • When I decided I wanted to learn the trumpet…
  • He taught me and Emory to canoe at Belle Isle
  • When my band started to play for money, he drove us to every party…
  • In my last year in divinity school, he asked me to work for him here at the church
  • I encourage you today to pause for a moment and reflect upon your father…
  • Good or bad
  • Happy or sad
  • Thank God!
