As a Father Loves His Children — Last night was the first time I can remember in the life of the Plymouth United Church of Christ, that a father, daughter and granddaughter were seated as elected members of the Trustee board. Bill Tripplett sat on one end of the table. His daughter Kim sat between him and beside her daughter, Kennedy. Our church has a rotating form of governance which allows a person to be elected to a church office for up to three years. Our church constitution also allows a person under thirty and one person under twenty to be elected to church office. So, Kennedy, who is under 20, with the respect and admiration of the congregation, was elected as a trustee. Looking at the three generations sitting near each other during the church Trustee Board meeting made me think of Psalm 103, where David compares the love of God to the love of a father: Psalm 103: 13 As a father has compassion for his children, so the Lord has compassion for those who fear him. 14 For he knows how we were made; he remembers that we are dust. [1] Questions for Reflection:

  1. Why do you think David compares the love of the Lord to the love of a father?
  2. What are your thoughts about Psalm 103?

Prayer: Lord, I love you. Your compassion and mercies extend beyond the generations. Your knowledge is too great for me. You know my down sitting and my uprising. You are acquainted with my thoughts from afar. You bless me with your mercy. You shower me with your grace. You guide me with your love. Through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior I pray. Amen.
