Are You Ready to Conquer the World?
It can seem too easy for a person to feel like “the world” is stacked against you. Money is tight. Gender and racial bias are real. Prejudice against growing older can be brutal. Ignorance sometimes trumps intelligence and the creativity and energy of youth is often treated like a meaningless joke. Take heart, the Word of God has promised that those who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ will conquer “The world.”
I believe that when the Apostle John says that “The one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God” will conquer the world, he is not just talking about the world to come, after life is finished, but he is also talking about life right now. You should not have to wait until you are old and broken down to experience joy and fulfilment. You should not have to wait until you are dead and gone to find inner peace and joy. Just because you were born poor or of modest means does not mean that you should be destined to a life of struggle and poor circumstance.
John teaches that if we are born of God we will conquer the world. My question to you is this: Are you ready to conquer the world? Are you ready for your blessing? Are you ready to taste the fruit of faith and enjoy life as God desires? Are you ready to overcome the obstacles before you, or have you already thrown in the towel thinking that you are too old, too young, too poor, too undereducated and all the other negative things you can imagine?
God is on your side. God has already prepared your victory. The challenge before you is to rise to the level of expectation that God has set before you. If life is not all you would like it to be, I encourage you to make a return to your faith, revisit your hope and retool your love. Let the Lord Jesus be your guide and what you will find is the strength to overcome any stumbling block in your path.
As I think about the little boy in the photo, I am struck with wonder at all of the possibilities, pitfalls and blessings that await him. One of the worst things we can do to a person at any age is to make them feel like that cannot achieve. When I think of this little fellow, I think about what a wonderful future and set of opportunities that are set before him. I know his father and mother and I know they will do their best to give him all the tools he will need to overcome the hurdles of life. The fact that I took his photo on a Sunday after worship is an indication to me that his parents want the best for their children. At the top of the list is the fact that they are introducing him to Jesus Christ as an infant. God alone knows what great things he will do with his life.
1 John 5: 5 Who is it that conquers the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
Questions for Reflection:
- What things are holding you back from realizing your destiny?
- What are your thoughts regarding being able to conquer the world because you are a believer in Jesus Christ?
Lord, I believe in you. Jesus, I believe in your authority. I believe in your power. I believe in your grace, mercy and love. Grant me this day renewed strength, renewed inner peace, and a renewed commitment to change the world for good and not evil. Through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior I pray. Amen.
