All Your Children Shall Be Taught by the Lord

Children at a Sunday School “Movie Night” at the Plymouth United Church of Christ in Detroit, Michigan

Earlier this evening I returned to the church where I serve as pastor, the Plymouth United Church of Christ to take a couple of photos of children, their parents and leaders of our Sunday School for what was billed as “Movie Night.” 36 children gathered together for light food, snacks, and age appropriate movies. In looking at the joy the children were having it reminded me of how important it is for churches and families to provide joyful, spiritually stimulating experiences in the context of our faith in Jesus Christ. Years from now, I am not sure if any of my sermons will be remembered by these children, but what I suspect they will never forget is the fun they had as children in the house of the Lord.

Isaiah 54: 13 All your children shall be taught by the Lord, and great shall be the prosperity of your children. [1]

Questions for Reflection:

  1. What are some of the best ways to expose children to Jesus Christ?
  2. How does the “Lord teach children?”

Lord, teach our children. Lord, encourage the adults that they might bring the children to you. Lord, inspire our children with a deep and abiding faith in you. Bless our children with a minimum of stress, an out pouring of love, and the freedom to dream. Lord, Jesus, bless our children. Through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior we pray. Amen.
