DSC_0005Have you ever “longed” to see someone?  Sometimes the people we “long’ to see are people we know.  Sometimes they are people we do not know.  Perhaps you “Long to see” someone who might be able to help you out and loan you money.  On occasion, the people we “Long” to see are people we think share common core values and principals.  Sometimes, we “long” to see someone because we believe that they might be supportive of something that is important to us.  The Apostle Paul wrote to the church in Rome, telling them that “I am longing to see you…”  He “longed to see them” because he wanted to communicate and share his faith with them.  They already were familiar with the message of Jesus Christ.  They believed in his grace, mercy and salvation.  They had heard of Paul and he had heard of them, but they had not yet met face to face.  Paul sent the letter to the Romans probably from Corinth at the home of Gaius where he was staying.  The person who hand delivered the letter to the church at Rome was Phoebe, a woman, whom Paul identifies in the 16th chapter of the Book of Romans as a deacon in the church.  I don’t know if there has ever been a person you wanted to see, even if you never met them before, but if you really wanted to  connect with someone, then you are sharing the desire of Paul, “Longing to them…”

Romans 1: 11 For I am longing to see you so that I may share with you some spiritual gift to strengthen you— 12 or rather so that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine. [1]

Questions for Reflection:

  1. Is there anyone you “long to see?”
  2. I there anyone you long to see because they share a common faith with you?

Lord, I thank you for the relationships that define life. I thank you for the people I love.   I thank you for the people who love me. I thank you for the friends I have who share common values, common principals and a common faith. Lord, may your love continue to bind me closer together with people who believe in you, throughout the world, and closer to you because of our common dependence upon you. Through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior we pray. Amen.
